-The Hobbit Without
Peter Jackson!!
Peter Jackson and his crew have emailed TheOneRing.net stating
that New Line Cinema will no longer require the service of Peter Jackson. This
is due to the legal battle still going on between Wingnut (owned by PJ) and New
Line Cinema. It looks like we'll be seeing The Hobbit and a possible prequel to
The Lord of the Rings, but not from Jackson. This is a major blow to PJ fans and
a cry for joy for the others. Only time will tell how this will turn out.

The
Spanish Tolkien Society has had the
pleasure of interviewing none other than Adam Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien's
grandson. While the short interview doesn't offer too much insight into the new
book, The Children of Hurin, it is nice to see an interview with an "Official
Tolkien". Adam tells us that the book will feature some new pieces along with
some already published material, and the book will put the puzzle pieces
together to form something that is hopefully easier to read than what is found
in The History of Middle-earth or The Silmarillion.

-Of Sorcerer and Men by Prof. Michael D.C. Drout
From the Lord of the Rings trilogy to the Harry Potter series,
fantasy novels have captured the imagination of millions of readers, and figure
prominently on any list of best-loved books. The masters of the genre, authors
such as J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin, Philip Pullman, and J.K. Rowling,
have brought to life unforgettable characters who dwell in richly detailed,
magical worlds, which run according to their own internal logic. In Of
Sorcerers and Men, Professor Michael D.C. Drout leads a fascinating tour of
the masterworks that defined the genre, paying particular attention to the books
of J.R.R. Tolkien, the godfather of fantasy literature as we know it today.
Drout's deft assessment provides deeper insights into these beloved creations,
and helps readers gain a better understanding of what makes fantasy literature
so special.

story to be told in biography

its own game is to be told in an authorised biography of New Zealand film-maker
Peter Jackson . 'Peter Jackson: A Film-maker's Journey' will be
published by HarperCollins New Zealand on November 10, just in time for the

radio dramatisation of the Lord of the Rings. The biography, written over
several years, tells the story of Jackson's life through his own words, as well
as drawing on the memories of friends, family and associates

Images Cannot Say" will center on differences between literature and cinema as
artistic means from Tolkien and Lewis’ outlook, as well as with the idea of
creation from language, and the incapability of images to communicate
metaphorical meaning —even of those brilliant scenes that Hollywood has recently
released. A question and answer session will follow. This lecture is free, but
